Today’s episode of New Amsterdam starts with Max making a drink in the blender and his daughter taking the lid off. He goes to clean it up and she grabs a knife when he’s not looking, cutting her finger. Floyd is in the hallway and sees a cute nurse he has a crush on. When he finds out that she is actually a test nurse, he no longer cares and tells her that he will see her on the ward round. Lauren is with her sister, she asks if she ever thinks about getting clean.

His sister sometimes says yes and then laughs. She starts thinking about when her mother was drunk and eating dumplings, then says she’s glad she’s here, she likes to talk to her. Max is with his daughter who is having a colon when some patients come to the ER. A woman with respiratory problems, she’s blue. More coming in, looks like sodium nitrite poisoning.

Iggy is in the country with his children’s therapy group when he notices that everyone is on the phone and no one is listening. He tells them they’re going to drive into a fire, crash the car, a big foot ahead, nothing, they don’t react. Iggy pulls over and tells everyone to put away their cell phones, they’ll be without a cell phone all day. All the patients are from the same address, Lauren tries to call the owner but no answer Justine is in the operating theatre, she speaks pig Latin, and her kids say she’s lucky.

Someone walks into the ER and drags Nurse Andrea out. A policeman stands in front of the operating room and arrests Andrea. Max tries to stop him, but it doesn’t work. Andrea asks her to call her husband. Andrea’s patient died. two months ago the district attorney charged her with murder. Max tries to defend Andrea’s case, she dispensed the wrong medication, but Max says it’s the machine, he made a mistake, it’s not in Andrea. She’s not a criminal, she did her job. Floyd goes to the apartment where all the patients live, he discovers its a cesspool for the disease. Back to Iggy, the kids aren’t happy about being without their phones. You feel punished and haven’t done anything wrong. Iggy says he’s giving them a gift from nature. The kids also want you to get rid of your phone, they noticed you get push notifications from a bachelor app. He leaves it for his 90-minute walk.

Elizabeth cannot get anyone to join her in the operation, but no one will for fear of being arrested like Andrea. Max meets with the district attorney and tries to represent Andrew’s case but to no avail. a plea, ten years. Iggy is in the woods with the kids and they lost track. He sees a sign and has a barcode to find the card, but not everyone has their cell phone.

Elizabeth walks into a room and a patient is desperate, he needs medicine, but the machine won’t give it to him. She overrides the vending machine because the nurse won’t, saying she won’t go to jail. Floyd has good news, the landlord is going to fix what’s broken and put the apartment back in order, and that means a 50% rent increase. it won’t, it’s the responsibility of the owner, not of them. Iggy and the kids find some footprints, but it turns out they’re theirs: they’re running in circles. Dark clouds gather, the children are already cold and it starts to rain. Elizabeth must tell the patient who needed the medicine that the delay in administering the medicine has resulted in kidney damage. Max says they covered their asses but this is the result. And he feels that they have failed, the patient’s first is the only way they should do things.

Lauren’s sister Vanessa finds her three-year sober coin and is upset because she says Lauren lied to her. Lauren says that she lied and that she is sorry but that she wants to stay with her. Vanessa tells her that he left her with her psychotic mother when she was nine. She throws Lauren out. Lauren says she was an 18-year-old runaway drug addict and it’s a shame she couldn’t come along but the bad guy is her mother. Vanessa tells him to stay, she’s getting high. Floyd goes back to the building and tells them that New Amsterdam will loan them the money to turn the building into a co-op for them all to own. It’s a huge upfront tax, and if they get it sanely, it will be worth it. Everyone will have a mortgage, it will be theirs. They can do what they want with the place because it will be theirs.

The nurse  Floyd had a crush on, his name is Gabriel, and they’re going out for a drink. Iggy is still missing, the kids start to enjoy the time together and suddenly they find out that one of them has his iPad, they can get the card and get out of there.
