What Happened to Kanan’s Mom in Power? Let’s Discuss

Starz’s “Power” universe is a sprawling franchise currently consisting of four television shows: “Power” and three spin-offs, “Power Book II: Ghost”, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” and ” PowerBook”. III.Book IV: Power.’

While the other two are sequels, “Power Book III: Raising Kanan” is a prequel set primarily in the 1990s and centered around Kanan Stark, one of the most notorious villains of the “Power” universe. American actress Patina Miller, Kanan’s mother, Raquel Thomas, is the prequel’s deuteragonist. Ruthless, brilliant and ambitious, Raq establishes her control of the drug trade in southern Jamaica, Queens, in the show’s first season.

Since she is one of the most important characters in the prequel, you may be wondering where she is during the events of “Power”. That’s what we know about it. SPOILERS AHEAD.

Although Raq never appears in “Power”, her son does mention her. In Season 2, Kanan, played by Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, James “Ghost” St.Patrick, and Thomas “Tommy” Egan, tells Stark that he visited his mother before coming to Ghost’s penthouse suite in Tribeca. This seems to imply that her mother is alive in the series at this point. This happens sometime after he’s released from prison.

We know that the first person he meets after his release from prison is his son Shawn, who came to pick him up. After learning that Ghost is still alive, an enraged Kanan goes on a hunt for Pink Sneakers, the assassin previously tasked with taking down Ghost. He then goes to Lieutenant Dre and begins planning his next move. Shortly thereafter he visits Ghost and the meeting mentioned above takes place.

However, in Season 5, after Kanan was killed, a news report indicates that he has no known surviving relatives. Given this sequence of events, we can speculate as to where Raq is during “Power”. When Kanan tells Ghost and Tommy that he went to his mother, it is possible that he is lying to hide the fact that he was stalking the person he hired to kill Ghost while also being Ghost’s doom plans. But it has to be a lie with some truth.

Given Ghost and Tommy’s relationship with Kanan, you probably know if she’s alive or not. At the same time, when he says he went to his mother’s, he can mean that he visited her. his grave, and so do Ghost and Tommy.

Courtney A. Kemp, the creator of “Power,” said in an interview that they seriously considered the idea of spin-offs around season four. This possibly explains the discrepancies affecting multiple characters. Does that mean Raq is alive in season 2 but dying in season 5 or was dead the whole time? There is a third possibility.

In some instances, in the first season of “Raising Kanan,” Raq speculates about leaving the life of a drug lord behind. When the show is over, she can do just that. Someone like her must have a way out. Strategy. This could explain the news report or a possible reappearance of the character in one of the later shows.
