Whilst you concept you would visible all of it on The Handmaid’s Tale, June (Elisabeth Moss) toys with the concept of completely returning to Gilead withinside the 8th episode of Season 5, titled “Motherland.”

It’s now no longer completely via way of means of choice, of course, however due to the fact Commander Joseph Lawrence (Bradley Whitford) asks her to be a so-known as a pioneer in his plans for New Bethlehem, in addition, to simply reuniting with Hannah (Jordana Blake). Lawrence pulls enough strings to get Serena released from prison and placed in Gilead custody, which means she ends up back at the Wheelers’ home. On the one hand, this means that she can be with her son, but on the other hand, she is treated as a kind of helper, specifically as a servant. Serena disagrees with Alanis Wheeler’s (Angelson)  method of “crying” with the baby and believes they are trying to steal her in general. 

In his sarcastic way, Lawrence notes that would be “hard to do” when living together, but everyone knows that maids are only called for specific purposes, be it ceremonies to get pregnant or pumping milk after childbirth. ; they are not members of a larger family unit. “I’m not going to live in the same house with my son’s kidnappers,” Serena says, to which Lawrence replies, “Are you lacking in irony?”

” So Serena turns to the only one she thinks can help her: June. Serena believes June has forgiven her and is initially hoping for some sort of sponsorship, but  June clarifies that idea fairly quickly (“I’ve got the other cheek. It turns out, after all this, I think I’m a better Christian than I am you”), who still offers his advice on how to survive in his new way of life. “You will go back there and act like a servant, but all the while plotted against them and plotted their revenge,” she says.

“Did you do that?” asks Serena. “Look at what happened to Fred and look at you now,” June says. But that wasn’t enough for Serena, who also wants to know what June would do in her place. “You can’t help your child if you’re not around them,” she says. “I would go back. And so would Serena. Lawrence tries to sell New Bethlehem to June

Lawrence’s plan for New Bethlehem gains momentum in Motherland, where he explains to fellow leaders the idea of ​​welcoming Gilead’s refugees. Portraying it as Hong Kong, “one country, two systems,” he states that “Gilead will replace the United States in the United Nations,” indicating that this system will neutralize an old threat. But these men aren’t enough for him, and he’s also trying to sell June the idea by asking her to move there. Possibly reconfiguring a bit about his history, telling him that he “had to use religious nutcases” whose depravity he underestimated just to save society from the late capitalism that was ruining America. “It was qualifying,” he says, saying that it worked and that if they succeed, they can “relax a bit”.

With all the anger at American and Gilaadian refugees (more on that below), it was surprising that the random package Luke had to wait for him and June wasn’t a threat, but rather something they’d been waiting for a long time. 

A closer look at Hannah. Although it’s unclear who it came from, a USB drive was left containing a few seconds of footage of Hannah walking her class at wives’ training school. That was enough to solidify June’s idea. he intends to go with her, for when he saw her in so tall and dressed in the purple color signifying marriage age in Gilead, he reminded him that he had once left her. And you don’t want to make the same mistake again.

The government gets something done

Ironically, Mark takes a big step to get Hannah out of Gilead while June and Luke fight over the inclusion of New Bethlehem. Mark  fears that Lawrence wants to kill America, and June is the most important symbol because if someone  her size goes to New Bethlehem, others will assume it’s safe and follow her, likely resulting in a trap and the downfall of the will lead to democracy . “trusting his  country” (to which she replies perfectly, “which country?”), but in the end, he pulls through. “We’re launching military action,” he confides to June and Luke.

“We’ve been preparing for a long time. When June and Luke get footage of Hannah, they give it to Mark, hoping his resources can find metadata showing the time or location of the event depicted. And amazingly, you can locate the location of their school in about 10 minutes (well, a week, but that’s fast for the government), and they’re planning a raid to get her (and presumably the other girls) outside of He says he wants to do what it takes to keep June in Canada and that certainly seems to prove it.

Canada is not such a refuge after all

This might seem like a small thing in the grand scheme of what’s happening on this show, but the Canadian cliché has always been that they’re so nice to everyone and they apologize thousands of times a day.  Over time, overuse will erase the true meaning of a word, sure, but  The Handmaid’s Tale shows a growing number of people taking to their soil to protest refugees, picketing people’s homes, singing, spray-painting the sidewalk and signs who tell them it’s “out” to, the sentiment is clear: safety isn’t guaranteed, and if it can happen there, it probably will happen anywhere. Final Thoughts

I think we’ll see Serena hit rock bottom. If you haven’t already, you know. I think there is a lot more for them to do. Some of my favorite scenes happen in Episode 8. Again, they’re complicated, they’re complex. I think that’s probably the most sincere grief we can see Serena say in about two seconds,  the moment she says something to a certain person. Being in a position now that isn’t privileged or what she’s used to, I don’t think she knows how to be as clever in her manipulation as she has been in the past. There will be a little stalling in that department, which is exciting to watch and exciting for me to act. And at only compared to the ending, I find that very unexpected. I don’t think anyone will expect that from the show, so we’ll see.

The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 9 Plot

Next week we must prepare for a pivotal hour like no other in The Handmaid’s Tale Season 5 Episode 9, and that’s saying something given what we’ve seen so far. This is one of the most important episodes of the season. Whatever happens here will almost certainly continue to the end, and it’s clear that some big decisions are at the heart of this hour. What’s one of the big ones right now? Well, that all has to do with whether it’s June or not. it will be being able to find Hannah, basically, something that’s been a part of this show for years. She has been presented with a possible opportunity but of course, there are still many trust issues that will arise. Can June Trust Commander Lawrence? We know you will do anything to find your daughter, even if it means risking your life. them out.

So there is an alternative, another way. At the moment that seems to be what inspires his stride. We’ll have to see if this holds up. As for Serena, there’s no doubt she’s in a situation she never imagined before. She is a servant in the Wheeler world and she knows it. You have legal status to care for Noah and unfortunately,  she doesn’t. It’s hard for her to accept, but it’s the truth. To make the stakes even worse for all these characters, remember that there is only one season left after this one. That means there are 12 episodes left before the show ends (as long as there are only 10 episodes in the final season of). Each of the stories along the way will be important.
