Created by Taylor Sheridan, the Paramount+ western series 1923 is a prequel to Yellowstone that follows the Duttons through the 1920s and explores the family’s survival as Prohibition and the Great Depression threatened. The series revolves around Jacob Dutton, brother of James Dutton, who founded Yellowstone Dutton Ranch in Montana.
The series also stars Jack Dutton and John Dutton Sr., the grandfather and great-grandfather respectively of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton III. Because the characters from “1923” and “Yellowstone” are so closely related, viewers have to wonder if their favorite characters from the latter will appear in the former, starting with Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton. So will we see Beth on the prequel show? Let’s find out!
Is Kelly Reilly in 1923?
“I just found out about [‘1923’] yesterday and I want to be a part of it,” Reilly told ET in May 2022 while attending Paramount’s 2022 preview. But the actress made it clear that she wasn’t there any chance of that happening right away. “Which is impossible. But they are my ancestors. It started with Tim [as in McGraw] and Faith [as in Hill] and Isabel [as in May],” the actress added.
Though Reilly revealed that being part of the cast of ‘1923’ is impossible for her, it might not be necessary to give up all hope. Since Reilly has expressed a desire to be part of the new show, she can join the prequel series as a guest to have a guest role in place of Beth. But let’s remind readers that neither Reilly nor Sheridan had hinted that the actress would join ‘1923’ to play such a new character. Regardless of whether Reilly will be part of the show or not, actress Helen Mirren, who leads the cast of the show with Harrison Ford as Dutton, wished the best.
Matriarch Cara Dutton. “I did my first TV job with Helen Mirren, called ‘Prime Suspect’, when I was 16,” Reilly said in the same ET interview. “She was the first professional actress I ever worked with She was fierce, brilliant, and everything I wanted to be as an actress. You know, full of courage and heart. And the fact that I’m a huge fan of the Yellowstone Universe and the writing… and the fact that he’s going to play one of Beth now Dutton’s ancestors… it’s a very sweet thing and I’m looking forward to seeing it,” added Reilly, who the new character, or Beth, is extremely short, but we can hope her desire to appear in 1923 to appear, motivating Sheridan to think of a character for her.
