The Amazon Prime Video Film Goodnight Mommy, directed by Matt Sobel, is a remake of the 2014 Austrian film of the same name. Starring Naomi Watts, the new version isn’t as effective as the original.

It’s all over-explained and watered down to the point where it’s not scary or gory. In terms of cinematography, I would always prefer Severin Fiala and Veronika Franz’s “Gute-Nacht-Mami” to the remake. In all honesty, the remake feels pretty unnecessary, and the changes to the Originals don’t look any better.

What Is the Film About?

The twin brothers Elias and Lukas visit their mother in her country house. Her parents have separated and after some time the children visit their mother. His mother doesn’t look like she used to; She has had plastic surgery and her face is bandaged. As soon as they arrived, he set them some rules: you shouldn’t go into the barn, leave the shutters open, enter his office or bedroom, and don’t make any noise. From that moment Elias felt like his mother behave differently. She wasn’t one to make rules.

They admitted that maybe it was the surgery that made them bitter, but when she refused to sing them a goodnight song, they wondered if it really was her mum under the bandage. Ever since they were little, their mother used to sing them goodnight, but this time she refused to do it. The belief that the woman they were living with was not their mother grew stronger as the days went by.

He tore up a drawing Elias had made of him and Luke holding hands with their mother. His mother always kept his drawings. That was unexpected. Elias decided to look at the barn.

He thought his mother was hiding something. There were old toys and comics in the barn, but Elias noticed blood on the wall. Lukas dismissed it and said it might be red paint. The twins tried to contact their father, but their mother found out and destroyed their phone. The twins decided to run away.

They packed their bags and found shelter in a nearby house. The owner didn’t appear to live there, but because of the heavy rain outside, the brothers decided to stay. The police woke Elias from his sleep and found her there. The owner had noticed movement through motion sensors and asked the police to find out if anyone had trespassed on his property.

The children tried to explain to the police that the woman they were living with was a scammer and not their mother. Later, the police received a call from her mother and dropped her off at home. From his conversation with the police officer, we know that he learned his mother was a celebrity, but her fame had faded over time. She lied to the police and explained that she did not raise her son’s hand, when in fact she had hit Elías for refusing to accept her as his mother. she

The twin brothers knew they had to leave, but in order to do that, they had to take care of their mother. They knew her medicine was making her sleepy, so they tied her hands and legs and questioned her about the whereabouts of her real mother. They planned to escape and find their mother, who loved them unconditionally.

The figure of the mother evokes a feeling of fear and insecurity. We don’t see his face until almost halfway through the film. Is she who she says is under the bandage? The bandage is removed when his son flees the house. It was a decision he made knowing he would be meeting strangers (the police officers).

The mother used to be a popular character, but she is no longer relevant. Plastic surgery is her attempt to feel good about herself. The separation from her husband and an accident that is revealed at the end of the film changed her. She wanted to start all over again, but the past kept haunting her.

Lukas checked the bag and confirmed he hadn’t found the lens. According to Luke, the mother lied and it was a waste of time to question her. Her tears didn’t touch him, but Elias grew sentimental.

In the meantime, the police came to check on them. He lied to her about his mother and said she wasn’t home. The police weren’t happy with his answer but didn’t have time to investigate.

Luke and Elias left their house with their mother tied to the bed and her mouth taped shut. Elias lied to Luke, saying he forgot his toothbrush and rushed home. He checked the bag and found the lens. He realized that Luke had lied to him. Lukas stood behind him and asked him to trust him and not believe what his mother said.

I’ve had enough. He pushed Lukas aside, went into his mother’s room, and locked it. He untied her and cried in his mother’s arms, expressing how it was Lukas who was manipulating him all the time. His mother hugged him and hugged him. tried to calm him down.

As he yelled at his mother to stop, he pushed her off the hill. She fell to the ground and the lantern fire lit up the hay and forest. The barn caught fire and Elias ran for his life. He struggled to understand what had happened; it was too much for him to process.

He looked up and saw his mother. She was untouched by the fire and behind her was Lukas. He held out his hand to Elias and the three walked together, just like in the picture Elias drew.

Elias could not cope with the death of his twin brother Luke. To cope with the loss, he began living in denial. His delusional state of mind led him to believe Luke was by his side as always. His mother refused to play along. She didn’t acknowledge Lukas’ presence and to protect the deception she began to see her mother as the devil.

He knew that if he faced the truth, he would lose the solace of imagination, and he didn’t want to. So, he dismissed the bloodstain on the barn and pretended it was red paint. She wanted to run away from home and not trust her mother. She had to choose between the real world her mother and her fantasy world which was Lukas.

Even though she cried out for help, in the end, she couldn’t accept the truth and pushed her mother away. His mother became part of his fantasy world. He couldn’t accept that he was somehow responsible for his mother’s life. death, so he figured the accident in the barn never happened; it was all a bad dream. He went away with his mother and brother.

Her world was balanced now and she had the people she loved by her side. Good Night Mama is a 2022 drama thriller film directed by Matt Sobel.
