Unlike some recent young adult black comedies, FAKES isn’t billed as a miniseries, so the creators may want to continue the series’ storyline for multiple seasons. The Vancouver-based series is also co-produced by CBC Gem, meaning the Canadian studio will also have a role in deciding the series’ future. Fakes Season 2 Renewed or Canceled?

As already mentioned, Fakes is a series from the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC). This makes it a very profitable option for the streaming giant, which recently announced it would be cutting high-priced directorial projects. There is precedent for this. Last month Prime Video just renewed a second season of the Canadian sitcom Julia Styles, The Lake. The difference here is that fakes can target a younger demographic that Netflix desires.

Developed by Warrior Nun’s David Turko and screenwriter Tabia Lau, Fakes is poised to be Netflix’s next big hit. A young adult crime comedy with a blend of heart and energy that never gets old. Fakes will eventually be renewed once CBC takes over most of the account.

Because FAKES has not yet been renewed, Season 2 has no official premiere date. But if a second season gets the green light soon and follows the same production pattern as Season 1, then fans can likely expect the show to return around late summer or fall 2023.

It’s hard to imagine a second season without the two Vancouver actresses at the helm. Should a second season go ahead, expect Jennifer Tong as Rebecca and Emilija Baranac as Zoe at the helm. As for the rest of the cast, Richard Harmon’s tryst finds himself in a precarious position in the season 1 finale. While Season 2 will likely reveal his fate, we don’t know how much of Tryst we’ll see again.

However, we may see more of Guy (played by Oliver Rice) after Rebecca and Zoe make an offer they can’t refuse. Tong and Baranac might also be excited about the potential to continue filming a show that takes place in their hometown, as they discussed in an interview with Vancouver Is Awesome.

“It’s incredibly refreshing to be able to show Vancouver as Vancouver,” said Tong. “We were able to show the boardwalk, the Lions Gate Bridge, and many other local spots that hold a special place in my heart.”

Since Vancouver usually has a Baranac, a surrogate city for many Hollywood productions, feels that FAKES is finally giving the city what it deserves. “It’s about time Vancouver got the representation it deserves,” he said. “Jen and I are so proud to be a part of something that is putting the spotlight on Vancouver.

What can we avoid?

The second season of Fakes would be hard to imagine without the two Vancouver actresses from season one. If a second season is ever released, viewers can rest assured that Jennifer Tong as Rebecca and Emilija Baranac as Zoe will take center stage. The season one finale of the TV show presents a precarious situation for the rest of the cast, including Richard Harmon’s tryst. We’re not sure how many Trysts we’ll see again, but Fakes Season 2 will likely reveal their fate.
