As the narrative of House of the Dragon moves toward the inevitable carnage, alliances are forged and relationships are redefined. In episode 4, entitled “King of the Narrow Sea”, Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) returns to King’s Landing, a year after he defeated the Crab Eater, and is reunited with his niece, Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy as an adult and Milly Alcock as a teenager), who is returning from her own reluctant and unsuccessful expedition to find a mate.

Did Daemon and Rhaenyra End Up Together?

The books describe what happened next; The depiction of “House of the Dragon ” may vary to some extent. Rhaenyra married Laenor, while after Rhea Royce’s death, Daemon married Laena Velaryon, Laenor’s sister.

The Velaryon brothers died in AD 120 the same year, and within six months Daemon and Rhaenyra were married unbeknownst to the king. Daemon and Rhaenyra had three children together, Aegon III or Aegon the Younger, Viserys II, and Visenya Targaryen.  Among them, the first two were the future kings of Westeros, while Visenya died in childbirth.

Both Daemon and Rhaenyra died in the Dance of the Dragons. Daemon and his dragon Caraxes dogfight Daemon’s nephew Aemond and Aemond’s dragon Vhagar in the Battle for the Eye of the Gods in AD 130. All four were killed. Rhaenyra, her half-brother, was fed to his dragon Sunfire by Aegon II in 130 AC.
