Becoming Elizabeth Season 1 Episode 8 Plot

“Spoilers Ahead”

The first thing to note about this article is that for now, it’s billed as a season finale, not a series finale. I want to tell you that the authors certainly plan to end this story on a rather intriguing note.

The title of this episode is Unto Death We Must Bow, and this will be an opportunity to delve deeper into some of the big questions the main character has about the future. Could she be a worthy leader?

The king is ill and the court, which has made enemies of the Catholics, now faces the possibility of being ruled by a Catholic while Mary travels to Whitehall. Mary and Elizabeth are briefly united in their love for their ailing brother, but Edward is dismayed that his legacy of a Protestant England will die with him if Mary takes the throne.

Isabel watches as the court breaks old loyalties and forges new alliances with all of the men desperate to survive what lies ahead. Until Elizabeth is approached with the suggestion: If England is to see its first wife on the throne, why shouldn’t it be her?

With so much of this show being an origin story, it makes perfect sense that things would end that way. If there’s no season two on the way, you want to feel like the whole journey is over. It was worth it, this is a perfect opportunity to do just that.

Becoming Elizabeth Season 1 Episode 7 Recap

Something that doesn’t make as much sense is Robin Dudley proposing to Elizabeth. What? What? We’re going to get a little more out of hand here. I mean I accept it because it’s a fun fictional show.

But this is not a documented event in any way. It’s worth it, though, as Elizabeth tells Robin, “Love marriages are for peasants who want to fuck without sinning.” LOL. SECURE. Mary almost goes to Spain but doesn’t.

Elizabeth is wearing the dress from her teenage portrait and I was really excited. Robin asks her if she loves him and how again, did she deserve this scene? It feels like not. She overcomes her debacle with Thomas! The prince?

Is it a random duke? I didn’t bother writing it down enough because it all seems wrong) and he canceled because he’d heard a lot about her. Elizabeth makes a tearful speech I don’t mean, acting smart, and Edward says she’s not the whore; it is his mother.

Wow, all men are so generous here. Edward has a coughing fit and passes out on his bed. gasp! Have we reached the end yet? Dudley says oh shit, and rightly so (for him).

And Mary tells Pedro that there is a disease in this country and if England has to burn to stop it, she will take care of it. It’s so cool, but also scary. Wow. Wow. We’d better get a second season of this focused-on Mary’s reign and maybe we can play Elizabeth again, but that’s an easy suggestion, not a demand. Excelsior, Tudors!
