The death of Viserys, which the House of Dragon has sown and cultivated since the beginning of the series, is the pivotal turning point that changes the direction of House Targaryen. Once the king is dead, the Dance of the Dragons begins, the dramatic arc that the House of the Dragon series aims to portray.

House of the Dragon’s time warps will also soon lead to a major cast change, as young Rhaenyra and Alicent, who audiences have come to know and love, will leave the series. She was replaced by Emma D’Arcy and Olivia Cooke plays Rhaenyra and Alicent, respectively, around the age of 30. With House of the Dragon officially revamped, it’s possible that much of the actual Dance of the Dragons will take place in Season 2, with Season 1 being primarily a provocative setting for the Targaryen Civil War.

Whatever happens, the countdown to the death of King Viserys is on. This follows the Game of Thrones tradition of killing key characters in Season 1 like King Robert Baratheon (Mark Addy) and Ned Stark (Sean Bean).
