The team decides to divide and conquer. Carter and Simone go to the morgue to talk to the coroner about the victim Lopez and Harper found in the latest trap. Laura and Brendon decide to investigate the trap he set for Bailey to show up. with a profile of the suspect. They meet Bradford from The Rookie, who is skeptical about Laura’s profile. They are later joined by Mark, Laura’s ex-partner. He disagrees with Laura’s profile of the suspect and they continue to argue about who is right and who is wrong. Carter and Simone discover the identity of the latest victim and visit their roommate, who tells them that Sadie has met a new man. in the university library, who shared his interest in Gothic architecture. He gave her a rare book and they can learn Jeff’s true identity after fingerprinting the book. His real name is Eli Reynold and he is from Denver.

The team heads to Denver because they believe there’s a chance he’ll walk back to his hometown. They question their father, who initially lies to them, but soon find out that he used to torture Eli to “toughen him up”. “I don’t think I’ll be winning the Best Dad award anytime soon. They’re forced to spend the night in Denver while waiting for new leads to hang out with. Simone, the good meddler that she is, can’t help but advise Laura and Carter. Carter is going through a divorce and Simone is trying to motivate him to get back in the game. Is not it too early? On the other hand, he advises Laura, to be honest about her feelings for her former partner Mark. Laura takes his advice and apologies to Mark for leaving the way he did. Apparently, he got up and left without saying goodbye.

They end up sleeping together, but Laura is still suffering from her fiancé’s betrayal and doesn’t want a serious relationship. Mark understands this and agrees to be friends with benefits. Meanwhile, Eli is looking for a new victim at a junkyard and meets Mia, who is an artist, and they bond over it. He invites her over to his house and flirts with her until she moves to leave. He overpowers her and puts her in a heating chamber and watches as she slowly begins to burn with heat. He must be a deranged psychopath! The next morning, the team receives a lead on Eli’s possible whereabouts and they head to Arizona. As they dig deeper, they discover that Eli has been spotted at a junkyard and has a new victim. This means they are running out of time and need to find it before the new victim dies. Brendon tracks down the car Eli was driving using CCTV footage at the junkyard. They find him in a remote apartment building, but unfortunately, Mark is injured by one of the booby traps Eli set up. Eli tries to escape and Simone chases after him. He attacks her, but Laura is just in time to save her.
