Now that The Conners Season 5 is officially taking place, attention has shifted to the storylines that the fifth installment of the sitcom spinoff will focus on. In May 2022, after months of rumors, ABC confirmed The Conners would be renewed for a fifth season.
Conners’ ratings for Season 4 left the show’s future in doubt, but an ending that married Ben and Darlene and Jackie and Neville while separating Aldo and Harris promised that the comedy formula of the situation would change going forward.
The Conners, which debuted in 2018, is a family sitcom with an unusual plot.
The show began as Roseanne, a comedy about a working-class family and their titular matriarch, Roseanne, in the ’90s. However, when Roseanne was revived for a tenth season in 2017, the show was quickly canceled after then-star Roseanne Barr made racist comments on Twitter.
Roseanne Barr was fired and without Roseanne to star, the show became The Conners. Her character was killed off-screen, and since then The Conners has focused on the troubles of Roseanne’s widow, her grown children, and her children.
Though some Roseanne alumni like Lou have returned to The Conners, the spin-off has done a good job of establishing a tone of its own. This will only become more pronounced in the now-confirmed fifth season, as The Conners split their titular family in a few new places.
For much of the show’s history, all members of the Conner family have lived under one roof. Aunt Jackie lives separately (although, as Dan likes to point out, she’s a constant presence in the household), and Harris lived with Aldo most of the time. Season 4.
However, the Conners will change this routine in Season 5 when Becky and Darlene move into a new house along with Darlene’s husband Ben. In a TVLine interview,
The Conners producers confirmed that Harris will be moving in with Dan and Louise, meaning Dan’s fears (and Louise’s hopes) of an empty nest after the wedding were premature.

While The Conners has been renewed for a fifth season, no air date has been announced yet.
However, viewers can make an educated guess as to when the sitcom returns by watching the past four seasons of The Conners.
Each season of The Conners To Far aired between late September and late October, meaning fans can likely expect The Conners to return in late fall 2022.
