Stars Wars The Bad Batch Season 2 Episode 4 Recap

Sure, there are interesting elements if you really look for them. For one, the entire episode is structurally reminiscent of the podracing subplot of Star Wars: Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, complete with the high-stakes race that humans generally cannot enter, the last-minute inclusion of a human racer, who eventually emerges victorious, underground backroom gambling, a bloodthirsty mob and plenty of computer-generated stunts and mayhem. yes, but Riot Racing, which seems to be a slightly more dangerous and less organized variant, is basically the same. The crew, or at least Omega, Wrecker, and Tech are there because Cid wants to earn some credits with it. new broker, a smug droid named TAY-0, and he need security for that because the place is full of bad guys, including an old acquaintance named Milliei who wants to raise a lot of money right away. TAY-0, for what it’s worth, was stellar to me, explicitly playing comic relief and behaving very differently than any other Star Wars droid I know. As Millei driver Jet Venim cheats his way to victory, Omega proposes a double-or-nothing follow-up race, complicated by the fact that TAY-0 is blown to bits in another crash heavily engineered with Millei. That means  Tech has to compete and use its hyperintelligence. and logical decision-making for to win against all odds. I accepted

“Faster” was supposed to make Omega the driver here and I’m glad it didn’t because that would have been a bit of a stretch trying to conjure up Anakin’s racing history and also the only explanation. If she were able to do that, it would say “she’s Force sensitive,” which hasn’t been implied so far and would be boring anyway, since it’s the quintessential Star Wars apology for absolutely everything. Tech pulls it off thanks to his already-established character traits that make a lot more narrative sense. But even on paper, this is a simplified one-episode setup, and I can see why fans in your face wouldn’t be totally blown away by it, but seeing it in motion puts any cynicism to rest. This is spectacularly well-animated, excitingly designed, with a truly kinetic feel in terms of speed and evasive maneuvers, and packed with amusing, interesting, or clever details. My previous purely visual achievement of The Bad Batch. Success in the race means  Tech rescues Cid from a situation her own bad decisions got her in, so this episode stands on its own. Conditions. But do not worry. Millet’ hints that Cid can’t be trusted and may or may not mean something in the future, but even if it doesn’t, there’s plenty to enjoy here in the meantime.
