After ten years, Rhaenyra has finally given birth to her children, three sons named Jacaerys, Lucerys, and Joffrey, none of whom have the silver hair characteristic of the Targaryens and Velaryons. Alicent accused the kids of being bastards. , but Viserys refutes this claim. Alicent informs Aegon that he will one day have to compete with Rhaenyra for the throne. Daemon and Laena take their daughters Baela and Rhaena on a journey to Pentos, where the Prince of Pentos offers rulership in return for an alliance against an emerging triarchy.

Daemon and Laena accept the offer. Laena decides to let her dragon Vhagar burn her because she cannot give birth. Ser Criston,  now loyal to Alicent, provokes Ser Harwin into attacking him by implying that Harwin is Jacaerys’ father, perpetuating rumors of Rhaenyra’s infidelity to Harwin. Rhaenyra is accused of having an affair with Harwin. Rhaenyra suggests that Jacaerys marry Helaena, Alicent’s daughter,  to defuse the situation; However, Alicent is opposed to this idea.

Viserys refuses Ser Lyonel Strong’s resignation as Hand of the King but allows Lyonel to escort Harwin back to Harrenhal. Lyonel proposes his resignation as Hand of the King. Larys Strong learns of Alicent’s confession that he wishes his father could still serve as the Hand of the King. After saying a heartfelt goodbye to Rhaenyra and her children, Harwin finally embarks on his journey. Larys assists Alicent by arranging for criminals to set a fire in Harrenhal, resulting in the deaths of Lyonel and Harwin. and shocks Alicent. Rhaenyra moves her family to Dragonstone, taking with her Ser Qarl Correy, Laenor’s lover.
